While there are a number of different Timbercrete building block sizes and products available, the standard (and most popular) is the 430x200x155mm block, which sells for approxiamtely $6 per block including GST. (Note: Price quoted valid as at 31st May 2006, and varies regionally, depending on raw material and other costs) The reasons that the above mentioned savings are so significant are:- Due to the block size and load bearing strength (27 tonnes per block!), you need only a single skin wall. - You do not pay for insulation
- You do not pay for timber or steel frame
- You do not pay for gibboard or other lining
- You do not pay for paint the internal walls, or timber reveals
- You do not pay for skirtings and architraves around windows/doors
More Cost Savings …. ! In addition to the above, ongoing maintenance is reduced (no gibboard and timber to maintain), and there are also hidden savings due to Timbercrete thermal performance (that is, you save on energy heating and cooling bills) And the savings don’t end there, because you also save on; -

General fix out Electrical Work -
Special standard sized Timbercrete blocks are available which have the electrical wall power boxes (for light switches & power points) already moulded into them. -
Special standard sized Timbercrete blocks are available which have moulded cavities to facilitate the installation of electrical wiring. (You run your electrical wiring inside the walls as the blocks are being laid.) Normally your electrician would charge you $50+ per hour to install power points, light switches and run cabling – but with Timbercrete these costs are almost eliminated! The Fix Out The need for costly architraves around windows and doors are eliminated. Also, the timber reveals normally used to bridge the gap around windows between the bricks and internal walls are eliminated. Pre-drilling and wall plugs are not required as doorjambs are simply nailed or screwed directly into the Timbercrete blocks. Floor skirtings, which are normally used to protect fragile gibboard walls, are unnecessary. Timbercrete walls look better without skirting anyway!
